Punjab Police it seems have failed to get any major information out of terrorist Jagtar Singh Tara in his eight-day interrogation.

On Thursday, they had secured his custody for another three days by arguing that they wanted to take him to the Nepal border to recover the arms and explosives he had hidden there. However, they haven't taken him to the border yet.

After eight day of police custody, Tara was produced in the court on Sunday, and when the police again sought an extension of the remand period, Tara's counsel objected, saying the police were making stories, as "last time, they claimed they had to recover explosives but didn't even send a team to the Nepal border," he argued.

The lawyer said the police had taken Tara into custody for questioning him in the 2009 murder of RSS-affiliated Rashtriya Sikh Sangat president Rulda Singh but had failed to link him with the crime. On this, the court rejected the police application and sent Tara to judicial custody till February 7.

However, the Rupnagar police then got him on transit remand in an attempt to murder case. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh Chauhan declined to share details with the media. "As the time was short, we couldn't take Tara to the Nepal border," he said.
