Patwari among three held for drug peddling

Just a day before International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Ludhiana police have arrested a government official and his two accomplices for drug peddling and recovered 1.7 kg of opium from their possession.

Just a day before International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Ludhiana police have arrested a government official and his two accomplices for drug peddling and recovered 1.7 kg of opium from their possession on Monday. The police have also confiscated the car that the accused used in drug peddling.

The accused have been identified as Jagroop Singh of Geeta Vihar colony of Tharike village, patwari at Karabara, Rohit Kumar of Balachaur and Mandeep Singh, alias Deepa, of Durga Puri of Haibowal.

Rohit Kumar is driver with a company while Mandeep Singh is a property dealer.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, ACP (central) Ramneesh Choudhary said the division no. 2 police have put up a naka at T-point near the civil hospital on Monday evening following a tip-off. The police asked a car heading from Jagraon bridge to stop for checking. Instead of stopping, the driver tried to flee from the naka.

However, their car broke down and the police nabbed them. The police recovered 1.7 kg of opium from their possession that they had hidden in their clothes in three different packets.

"The car that they used in the crime belongs to the company Rahul is employed with," he added.
