PAU introduces anti-ragging measures ahead of session

With Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) all set to welcome new students in the new session, the varsity has decided to introduce new anti-ragging measures, including beefing up of security at hostels, to curb the menace.

With Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) all set to welcome new students in the new session, the varsity has decided to introduce new anti-ragging measures, including beefing up of security at hostels, to curb the menace.

GS Buttar, head of agronomy department and the chairman of the Anti-Ragging Committee, said that ARC, in an internal meeting conducted recently, had decided to post two professors in addition to the warden and an assistant warden at PAU hostels from 8.30 pm to 10.30 pm. Besides this, students will be made to sign an undertaking to promising to refrain from indulging in such activities.

Those found involved in such activities also face the risk of being expelled from the university.
According to various sources from the department of International Linkages and Communication Centre (CCIL), a victim or his or her family is not satisfied with the punishment dealt with in individual instances, they could also approach the police to file a First Information Report (FIR).
Additionally, professors have been asked to report to their respective classes at least five minutes before they begin.

Vice-chancellor BS Dhillon said, “We hope that ARC will play a strong role to enforcing discipline and encouraging a friendly environment on the campus.”
