PAU's training course on food grains from May 6

The directorate of extension education of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will organise a one-week training course on “Safe storage of food grains and quality standards” from May 6 to 11 at farmers' service centre in the university.

The directorate of extension education of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will organise a one-week training course on “Safe storage of food grains and quality standards” from May 6 to 11 at farmers' service centre in the university.

Giving details, MS Gill, director, extension education, said the PAU subject-matter specialists would dwell upon the factors affecting quality of food grains; quality control equipments and procedures; operation and management of grain moisture meters; grading, classification and quality assurance of cereal and coarse grains.

Besides, cleaning, grading, drying, aeration and air tight storage, effect of various factors on storage of food grains, importance of moisture and temperature, and quality assurance to the consumers, would be the other thrust areas, he added.

Gill said the experts would educate the trainees about the handling of equipments used in modern grain storage and milling system, rice milling and quality control in modern rice mills; prevention of mycoflora and mycotoxins in food grains; and identification of insect pests of stored grains.

Gill said the trainees would visit modern grain storage and milling facilities. The registration for the course would be held on May 6 at 9:00 am at scheduled place, he added.
