Pbi varsity to host first South Asian Punjabi conference

Punjabi University will host a two-day first South Asian Punjabi conference on 'Future of Punjabi language, literature and culture in South Asia: challenges and prospects' on July 30 and 31.

Punjabi University will host a two-day first South Asian Punjabi conference on 'Future of Punjabi language, literature and culture in South Asia: challenges and prospects' on July 30 and 31.

The decision to hold the conference was taken at a meeting of the general body of the World Punjabi Centre, the organiser of the event. Presiding over the meeting, vice-chancellor Jaspal Singh said South Asian region needed to be explored for the promotion of Punjabi language. He said people who had made any contribution for the promotion of Punjabi would be invited as special guests to share their ideas at the conference.

The director of World Punjabi Centre, Deepak Manmohan Singh, said a special feature of the conference would a short-film (fiction and non-fiction) festival, to be organised in collaboration with the University’s Centre for Advanced Media Studies (CAMS). CAMS director Gurmeet Maan said mediapersons and scholars from Singapore were likely to participate in the conference to discuss various aspects of television broadcasting.
