A meeting of the Association of Punjab Pharmacy Colleges (self financing) was held at Gujranwala Guru Nanak College of Pharmacy here on Saturday to discuss the financial and other problems faced by diploma pharmacy institutions affiliated to the Punjab State Board of Technical Education (PSBTE).
The meeting was presided over by chairman of the association SP Singh and former GNDU vice-chancellor. The main issues discussed at the meeting were low tuition fee fixed by the Punjab government for diploma pharmacy students.
Following the meeting, a memorandum of demand was presented to the state government, wherein the members appealed to the government to increase the tuition fee, as it was impossible to meet the expenditures with the current fee.
On the occasion, SP Singh condemned the public notice issued by the Haryana State Pharmacy Council in a English newspaper on February 24, which says: "Candidates having qualification of Matric, 10+2 from Haryana board or CBSE and diploma /degree in pharmacy from any institutions in Haryana approved by the Pharmacy Council Of India (PCI ) will be registered in the council."
Singh further said it was against the regulations of the PCI, entailing a candidate passing from any PCI-approved institution in India could get registered anywhere in India. This also signified that Haryana candidates passing out from diploma/degree pharmacy institutes in Punjab, or states other than Haryana, would not be registered in Haryana, he added.
