Pick-up van driver dies in attempt to save 3 youths

A pick-up van driver lost his life in an attempt to save three motorcycle-borne youths on the Jaimal road near Bhagwan Chowk today. The pick-up van was coming from Janta Nagar Chowk, while the motorcyclists were travelling on the wrong side.

A pick-up van driver lost his life in an attempt to save three motorcycle-borne youths on the Jaimal road near Bhagwan Chowk on Sunday.

The pick-up van was coming from Janta Nagar Chowk, while the motorcyclists were travelling on the wrong side. In an attempt to avoid collision, the pick-up van driver lost control over the vehicle and it overturned.

The driver died on the spot, while two of the motorcycle riders suffered injuries. They were rushed to the civil hospital by area shopkeepers, while the police have arrested the other motorcyclist.

The deceased has been identified as Sham Sundar, 31, of New Janta Nagar. He was the lone breadwinner of the family. The motorcycle riders were Sheru, Shalu and Gulshan, all residents of Sanjay Gandhi Colony.

Sundar is survived by wife and two children Puneet, 5, and Khushi, 2.

Jai Kishan, brother of the deceased, said Sundar had bought the pick-van just a few months ago and used to transport material of several factories to sustain his living. Prerna, wife of the deceased was in inconsolable condition.
