Renowned industrialist and pioneer of bicycle industry in Ludhiana, Mohinder Singh Bhogal, passed away here on Sunday at the age of 86.Bhogal born in 1927 was the eldest among 10 siblings.

Known for his initiatives in the cycle industry, Bhogal was the first to make a Lathe machine for manufacturing cycle parts in the city at the age of 16.
He is also credited with being the first to go in for automation in the cycle industry in the city by setting up a self-made machine for manufacturing cycle parts in 1952. Former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri visited the factory to see the machine in 1953.
His younger son Harinder Pal Bhogal said, "Before independence, there was a ban on manufacturing cycle parts in the country. My father made a machine for manufacturing cycle parts and a case was registered against him."
Bhogal was also credited with bringing the cycle industry under one umbrella. He became the founder president of the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association.
He received various awards for his entrepreneurship.The cremation will take place at the Model Town Extension crematorium on July 16
