The police on Thursday arrested a proclaimed offender involved in a murder case of a 32-year-old man, who was shot dead by a group of assailants in Kapurthala on July 27, 2013, and another man with1kg heroin, Rs 2.5 lakh, a .32 bore pistol, four magazines and 23 cartridges.
The CIA staff arrested Amarjit Singh Kala, alias Mama, a resident of Kapurthala along with Surinder Malhotra, also a resident of Kapurthala, with the contraband, cash and firearms.
CIA in-charge Jaswinder Pal Singh said on a tip-off they conducted a special checking on the Jalandhar-Amritsar road at Nurpur Lubhana village near Dhilwan and arrested the two who were travelling to Jalandahr in a Tata Indigo car (PB-12-T-7413).
“Amarjit is an accused on the murder case of Manoj Kumar Chopra, alias Deepa, who was shot dead by a gang in 2013,” he said.
He said Amarjit fled to Uttar Pradesh and started drug smuggling there. "But he was residing in a rented house in Amritsar for the past six months," he said.
A case has been registered under sections 21-61-85 of the NDPS Act and sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act at the Dhilwan police station. The police have procured three-day remand from the court for investigation.

{{/usCountry}}On July 28, 2013, Manoj Kumar and his younger brother Madan Chopra were on their way to their home at around 10.00pm. After parking their vehicle near their house in Kapurthala, Deepa was targeted by a group of motorcyclists.
After hearing the gunshots Manoj’s father Vijay Kumar Chopra came out of the house. He died on the spot due to cardiac arrest after seeing the body of his son.
