The police are said to be very close to cracking the murder of 25-year-old Manpreet Kaur of Subhanpur village, whose body was recovered from the roadside near Mahilpur on Thursday.

Senior superintendent of police Sukhchain Singh Gill refused to divulge details but sources revealed that the deceased's parents as well as the boy she remained in constant touch with, were involved in the investigation. The police have procured the call details of Manpreet's mobile and trying to tie loose ends.

"We are probing all angles and questioning a number of people known to the girl but unless we get specific evidence against any one, we cannot accuse him. All I can say is that we would solve the case very soon," said the SSP.

Manpreet's parents had informed the police that she had left home on Wednesday evening to attend the ring ceremony of her friend's sister and told them that she would not be returning in the night.
