Police still clueless about 34 guns stolen on Monday

Three days after 34 guns and 1,243 cartridges were stolen from an arms dealer's shop in Kotkapura, police have failed to reach a breakthrough in the case.

The theft raises serious questions about security at night. The stolen weapons included 7 guns of .315 bore, 4 guns of .12 bore,21 pistols and revolvers of .32 bore and 2revolvers of .22 bore.

The thieves had also stolen about 488 cartridges of .315 bore,635 of .32 bore pistols and revolvers, 90 of .12 bore guns and 30 of .22 revolvers, totaling to 1,243.

"All the major weapons were stolen by the thieves who most probably, belonged to an expert gang of criminals. They also seem to be completely aware of the minute details of the shop as they did not break open the shop but broke in from the tiled roof of the adjoining shop which was easier to break," a source said.

The thieves also tried to destroy close circuit cameras by setting the shop on fire after stealing the weapons. The damaged closed circuit cameras and a few other articles were reportedly taken by the forensic experts to Chandigarh.

The Sher-e-Punjab gun house is situated on Jaitu road, Kotkapura, about half-a-kilometer away from the city police station.

Faridkot SSP Sukhdev Singh Kahlon said police were trying their best to crack the case but so far, there were no clues.

When asked if the thieves could have inter-state gangs operating in troubled states, he said nothing could be said in the absence of clues.
