Police submit chargesheet in Women's Day gangrape case

After around 45 days of the gangrape incident on Women’s Day, the police submitted the chargesheet in the case in court on Thursday. The police said investigation in the case had been completed long ago, but they were awaiting swab reports that were pending with the forensic laboratory.

Terming it a rarest-of-the-rare case in the history of Ludhiana, the police officials said they would pursue the case in court for maximum punishment to the accused.

The Sadar station house officer (SHO), inspector Surinder Singh, said as it was a sensitive matter, the police had also counseled the victim besides investigating the matter. The SHO said the police had collected all evidence and investigated the matter scientifically. After completing all legal formalities, the police had produced the chargesheet in court, he said.

The 21-year-old victim, who was an employee of a reputed hotel on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur road, was allegedly raped by three persons in a moving car on the intervening night of March 7 and 8. The accused allegedly kidnapped her from Rajguru Nagar and had dropped her off in the wee hours of March 8. The police had registered a case of gangrape against the accused on March 8.
