As Gurgaon gets ready to vote on Thursday, formal canvassing has come to an end. However, the publicity war between parties has turned ugly.
A full page of Narendra Modi in some newspapers came overlaid with a sticker of the Congress candidate, Rao Dharampal, though without his party name.
“The Congress knows its candidate is likely to lose to our candidate, Rao Inderjit Singh, which is why they stooped so low. Strangely, the sticker does not mention the party name or the name of the publisher,” said Kulbhushan Bhardwaj, general secretary, BJP in Gurgaon.
The colour scheme of the overlaid sticker seemed deliberately designed to match the saffron in Modi’s ad.
Dharampal’s party, INC, was not mentioned at all and their symbol, the hand, could be seen in one corner of the sticker.
Meanwhile, Rao Surendra, Dharampal’s son and his campaign coordinator, said, “We have not tried to mislead the people. The absence of Congress party name on the sticker might be a printing mistake.”
