Power tariff: 50% arrear relief to Punjab industry

The Rs 5 a unit tariff will have an impact of Rs 1,100 to 1,150 crore per year.

Power minister Rana Gurjit Singh on Tuesday convened a high-level meeting with various industrial organisations of Punjab to discuss the tariff issues, and accepted their major demand that the government take up 50% of the arrears of the hiked tariff.

A spokesman said the government has accepted three main demands regarding retrospective implementation of increased tariff, two-part tariff system, and power tariff at the cost of Rs 5 per unit as per manifesto during this meeting.

The Rs 5 a unit tariff will have an impact of Rs 1,100 to 1,150 crore per year. “This will be effective from January 1, 2018. It will applicable to medium scale (MS) and low scale (LS) category only,” he added.
