The proposal of Offset Printers' Association (OPA), Ludhiana, for development of a printing and packaging cluster in Ludhiana was approved during the 30th steering committee meeting of the MSME Cluster Development Programme in New Delhi.
The Wnion Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sanctioned Rs 23.85 lakh for soft intervention of a printing and packaging cluster in Ludhiana during a meeting held on Wednesday at Nirman Bhawan in the national capital, said SS Dhillon, director, MSME DI, Ludhiana.
"Soft intervention will help to create awareness among cluster actors. Participants will benefit by improvement in their quality systems. The training programme will give exposure to the cluster actors on better technology, cost reduction and quality improvement," he said.
Parveen Aggarwal, president, OPA, said, "We are thankful to the director, MSME DI, Ludhiana, and his team for their support and guidance. Our thanks are also due to the Mukesh Khanna, general manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), and his staff, especially Rekhi, for their dedicated support and cooperation in the approval of the proposal of the OPA."
Talking about the project, OPA general secretary Kamal Chopra, said, "After conducting diagnostic study for the printing and packaging cluster at Ludhiana, the OPA had submitted a report to the MSME ministry through the DIC, Ludhiana."

{{/usCountry}}The major problems facing the project were non-availability of testing lab, dearth of skilled manpower, non-availability of an organised market channel, stiff competition from nearby clusters, insufficient modern management skills, tax-free zone in neighbouring states, etc.
