Private mill owner booked for negligence

The owners and foreman of a steel rolling mill at Mandi Gobindgarh were booked on Wednesday for their negligence resulting in the injury of a worker who was made to work without protective gear.

The owners and foreman of a steel rolling mill at Mandi Gobindgarh were booked on Wednesday for their negligence resulting in the injury of a worker who was made to work without protective gear.

On the basis of the complaint of the victim Harpreet Singh of Bhadson village near Patiala, the Mandi Gobindgarh police booked foreman Amrik Singh, owners Bhushan and Mukesh of Parvati Rolling Mills in Shanti Nagar under sections 337 and 338 of the IPC.

Investigating officer ASI Taranjit Singh said Harpreet had informed the Patiala police that on April 10 he was forcibly made to work at the coal grinding machine and foreman Amrik Singh refused to provide him safety gear. When he noticed two stones were worn out and could cause explosion he informed the foreman and the owners who did not pay heed.
In spite of it, he was forced to work at the grinding mill and later there was an explosion which gave Harpreet burns, he told the police.


After narrating the incident to his family, they took him to the Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, where the doctors informed the police before referring him to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.
