The proposal was mooted by the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) for the convenience of girls who wish to study at night in the library during exams but cannot return to their hostels alone due to safety issues.

PUCSC president Jasmeen Kang said: “In the past couple of days, we received a lot of calls from girls requesting that if the PU authorities could arrange for buses for them so they can commute between the hostels to the library till 11:30pm.”

The bus will play on the campus between 9pm and 11.30pm.

Kang said the PU chief security officer has assured that the bus shuttle services would be provided considering the safety of the girls.

Not only this, the students council has also urged dean students welfare (DSW) professor Navdeep Goyal to provide night passes to girl students during the examinations so they could return to hostel without paying late entry fee at the gate.

“Thus, we had given a representation to the DSW that girls be given night passes for a month till the examinations are over,” added Kang.
