Punjab doc accused of misconduct with nurse

A government doctor at Community Health Centre (CHC), Saroya, has been found guilty of misconduct with a staff nurse. In a complaint to police, nurse Sumita Rani alleged she was on night duty on December 30 at CHC when around 9 pm Davinder Pal Singh, a senior doctor, who was allegedly in an inebriated state, came to duty room and misbehaved with her.

A government doctor at Community Health Centre (CHC), Saroya, has been found guilty of misconduct with a staff nurse. In a complaint to police, nurse Sumita Rani alleged she was on night duty on December 30 at CHC when around 9 pm Davinder Pal Singh, a senior doctor, who was allegedly in an inebriated state, came to duty room and misbehaved with her. She added that the doctor also passed lewd remarks against her.

She called up CHC senior medical officer and her husband who came to her rescue. The nurse filed a complaint at the Pojewal police station. Investigation officer Avtar Singh said the doctor was arrested and released on bail on Monday.

A case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 509 (gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 510 (misconduct in public by a drunken person) and other sections of the IPC was registered.

The investigating officer said a medical examination of doctor was also conducted at Nawanshahr police station and report was awaited.

Dr Davinder Pal Singh did not respond to the calls made to him.
