Punjab to spend Rs 500 on cancer detection and treatment

Punjab government would spend Rs 500 crore on cancer detection and its treatment annually, state health minister Madan Mohan Mittal said while presiding over the concluding day of nation seminar on cancer and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) at Panjab University regional campus in Bajwara on Sunday.

Punjab government would spend Rs 500 crore on cancer detection and its treatment annually, state health minister Madan Mohan Mittal said while presiding over the concluding day of nation seminar on cancer and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) at Panjab University regional campus in Bajwara on Sunday.

Expressing concern over the rising incidence of the diseases, the minister said that ayurveda could prove beneficial to such patients.

Revealing that the first phase of cancer detection survey had been completed, he said that in the second phase, expert doctors would examine the identified patients and in the final phase, cancer tests of the patients would be conducted in cancer institute and treatment would be provided to them.

He revealed that a State of Art Cancer Hospital was being set up in Mohali at a cost of Rs 450 crore.

Guru Ravidas University vice chancellor OP Upadhyaya said that the valuable views and suggestions of experts who attended the seminar had been noted down and the same would be forwarded to the government for implementation.
