Punjab vigilance chief BK Uppal, special cell AIG Varinder Paul to get President’s police medals

In all, 16 police officers from Punjab, including Ranbir Singh Khattra, deputy inspector general (DIG), administration, Indian Reserve Battalion, and Sandeep Kumar Sharma, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Kapurthala, will also the medal.

Additional director general of police (ADGP) BK Uppal, who heads the Punjab vigilance bureau, and assistant inspector general (AIG) Varinder Paul Singh, who is posted in the state special operations cell, have been chosen for the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services on the occasion of Independence Day.

Uppal is from the Indian Police Service (IPS) 1991 batch, while Singh belongs to the state cadres, Punjab Police Service (PPS) batch of 1993.

In all, 16 police officers from Punjab, including Ranbir Singh Khattra, deputy inspector general (DIG), administration, Indian Reserve Battalion, and Sandeep Kumar Sharma, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Kapurthala, will also the medal.

A spokesperson of the police said on Monday listed the names: Gurinder Singh Grewal, assistant inspector general (AIG), zonal CID, Patiala; inspector Sukhmandar Singh, posted in the office of ADGP, armed battalion, Jalandhar; inspector Paramveer Singh, in-charge, sub-division Saanjh Kendra, Jalandhar cantonment; inspector Baldev Raj of 7th Battalion, PAP, Jalandhar; inspector Baljinder Singh, security officer with the chief minister; inspector Rajnish Kumar, special task force; inspector Satnam Singh, Police Recruits Training Centre, Jahan Khelan; and inspector Amrit Saroop Dogra, economic offences wing, Amritsar.

Others are sub-inspector Kuljeet Singh, posted in the office of IGP (commando), Patiala; S-I Gurwinder Singh, posted in the office of ADGP, armed battalion, Jalandhar; S-I Manohar Lal, CID unit, Mohali; S-I Mohinder Pal, CID headquarters; S-I Sukhjinder Singh, VB, Bathinda; and ASI Inderjit Kaur, CID HQ.

Meanwhile, the state government announced the Chief Minister’s Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty to five police officers: SP, investigation, Patiala, Harwinder Singh Virk; inspector Shaminder Singh, counter-Intelligence, Mohali; ASI Tejinder Singh, Commando Training Center, Bahadurgarh; ASI Pushpinder Singh from Bathinda, and head constable Sanjeev Kumar, also of Bathinda.
