Punjab revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Saturday termed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Punjab as a continuation of the divisive politics followed by the Gandhi family which had earlier resulted in Operation Bluestar and the 1984 Sikh genocide.
While interacting with mediapersons here after distributing 356 bicycles to the girl students of Shaheed Captain Amardeep Singh Government Senior Secondary School, Majithia said Rahul’s recent visit could be seen in this light as he has tried to re-launch the Congress party in Punjab on the pretext of sympathising with Sikhs over the recent sacrilege incidents.
“What moral ground do you have to shed crocodile tears over the incidents of sacrilege when your grandmother Indira Gandhi was responsible for destroying thousands of “birs” during Operation Bluestar,” Majithia asked.
He also accused the Gandhi clan of deliberately denigrating Sikhs, Punjab and Punjabis by using various political tactics and said now Rahul was out to add fuel to the unfortunate incident of desecrations in Punjab.
Cautioning the Congress party against politics being played by it over the serious and sensitive issue of sacrilege, Majithia said the people of Punjab were well aware about the fact that some anti-Punjab forces were trying to disrupt the hard-earned peace of Punjab under a well-planned conspiracy and would not allow anyone to succeed in these nefarious designs.
