Railway station and bus stand offer filthy welcome

The city railway station and bus stand do not give the so-called 'metropolitan' city of Ludhiana a great first impression, as the two core entry points to the city are full of unhygienic surroundings.

The city railway station and bus stand do not give the so-called 'metropolitan' city of Ludhiana a great first impression, as the two core entry points to the city are full of unhygienic surroundings.

Add to that the menace of beggars and auto drivers chasing visitors constantly, and the stations are sure to disappoint.Not only the platforms, even the tracks are flooded with filth. The paan-stained walls seem to be the favourite spitting spot. Public toilets too leave no stone unturned to present a bad picture of the station.

The dustbins placed at the stations are of no use as people believe in littering all around instead of using them. Also, if they are used, the garbage in the bins is never cleared.

Preetinder Kaur, a school student from Durgi area says, "I believe people will never change here till heavy fines are slapped on them".

City-based marketing and PR professional Manav Inder Guram says, "It is high time that the MC wakes up. At least the welcoming points in the city should be kept clean"

While, residents are irked with the authorities approach, the general manager of bus stand RS Grewal feels the housekeeping team is very active in keeping the bus stand clean. "They not only clean all public areas during the morning, but also ensure to maintain hygiene round the clock," Grewal says.
