The court had ordered Rampal produce surety after Raj Kumar, son of Atma Ram, had deposed himself as surety and written to withdraw his name in the land fraud case against Rampal and several others.

Rampal, who was arrested in November by Haryana police from his Barwala-based ashram for remaining evasive to produce in high court, was booked in 2009 for fraudulently grabbing the land from one Kamla of Karontha village.

Based on Kamla's petition, Rohtak police booked Rampal and several others under sections 420(fraud), 465 (forgery), 465,467, 486,471 (forgery of will), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

Advocate Ravinder Kataria, who is fighting case for Kamla, told mediapersons that after Kumar submitted an application in the local court that he wants to withdraw as surety and the court had served notice to produce his replacement. "But Rampal could not produce surety for self on Wednesday," he added.

One Satyadev, who was also booked with Rampal in the land fraud case, has been declared proclaimed offender for repeatedly being absent from the court's hearing, he said.

Meanwhile, Rampal was brought to the Rohtak court amid high security arrangements in view of security threats.
