The raid was in progress till the filing of this report; the department expected to make more recovery of liquor from other locations.

In the raid conducted by the joint team of the excise and taxation department and Bathinda Police on Thursday evening, 72 boxes of countrymade liquor were recovered from the factory reportedly owned by the leader.

Sixteen boxes of English wine were recovered from the house of the leader, who is reportedly on the run following the development.

Assistance excise and taxation commissioner Pawan Garg said, “I do not have the exact figures. We have recovered around 100 boxes of wine till now. Countrymade liquor has been recovered from the factory. Some boxes of English wine have been recovered from his house.”

“It is not the first time that a raid has been conducted on the establishments owned by the leader. We had conducted a raid around 10 months back at his shop. At that time, we were not successful. We had information this time and it worked,” he said.

“We will try to search all possible storehouses and expect more recovery,” said Garg.
Senior police officials could not be contacted for comment.
