Regular faculty of Punjab colleges awaits salaries

To protest against the non-payment of salaries for the past three months, the regular faculty of government colleges sat on a dharna in their respective districts on Wednesday.

To protest against the non-payment of salaries for the past three months, the regular faculty of government colleges sat on a dharna in their respective districts on Wednesday.

The teachers raised slogans against the state government for not releasing their salaries.

As many as 219 regular teachers of eight government colleges of have not received salaries since December. There are 48 government colleges in Punjab.

The eight government colleges are SCD Govt College, Ludhiana; Govt College for Girls, Ludhiana; Govt Science College, Jag raon; Govt Ripudaman College, Nabha; Saroop Rani Govt Colle g e for Women, Amritsar; Sri Guru Arjan Dev Govt College, Tar n Taran; Govt Guru Nanak College, Kala Afghana, Gurdaspur; and Government Arts and Science College, Talwara Township, Hoshiarpur.

Jaipal Singh, general secretary of Punjab Government College Teachers Association, told HT, “We have not got salaries since December and the government has forced us to sit on dharna. We have to admit our children in educational institutes and also have to pay income tax. So if the government fails to release the salaries soon, we would boycott the annual examination and election duties.”
