Five municipal councillors of the Congress had filed a writ petition in the high court regarding the town's sewerage system, which is choked for the past several months.

In response to the petition, the high court, on January 13, ordered deputy director, local government, Ferozepur, to ensure cleanliness in Abohar, following which 11 teams of various municipal committees camped at Abohar. However, the sewerage system is yet to be made properly functional.

During the last hearing, justice Rajesh Bindal directed chief engineer, local government, to streamline the sewerage system and asked the Punjab government to facilitate required funds to provide better civic amenities besides potable water at Abohar.
