Ramandeep Kaur, councillor of ward number 44, had proposed in the House meeting which was held at MC’s head office in Zone A that religious places such as gurdwaras, temples, churches and all government schools should be given free water supply and the government should ensure that no sewerage bill was charged from them as these places were not earning any profit or running any commercial activity.

The councillors of all parties, who were present in the meeting, also supported the proposal.

Jatinder Singh Sandhu, secretary of Gurdwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha, Sarabha Nagar, said: “The government should approve the proposal of providing free water supply to religious places as they are non-profitable.”

“Moreover, the government should also allow religious places to use normal cylinders rather than commercial ones as in gurudwaras as there is free kitchen for everyone. This issue should also be raised in the House,” Sandhu said.

When contacted mayor Harcharan Singh Gholwaria said: “We had approved the proposal in the House meeting and also forwarded it to the government for final approval.”
