District mandi officer Harinder Singh Randhawa said that he had sent a draft notification to the secretary of the Mandi Board for approval in 2012 and wrote a reminder last year for speeding up the process for de-notification of the old grain and vegetable market here. He, however, said the case is under process.

Market committee officials said that without de-notifying the old grain and vegetable market, it was not possible to shift it to the new grain market complex.

Residents, regretting the delay in notifying the new market, rued that the vegetable market has become a nuisance for them as shopkeepers dump garbage on the road in front of the main post office.

They said that the stink emanating from heaps of garbage makes movement of hundreds of commuters difficult.

SDM HS Dhaliwal, who is also administrator of the market committee, said that he had discussed the issue of de-notification of the old grain and vegetable market with the committee secretary and ordered necessary action in this connection.
