Sudden rise in the mercury, has taken its toll on city residents. The maximum temperature from the last two days has gone up to 40 degree Celsius from 38 degree Celsius.
Experts say that the minimum temperature is slightly higher than the normal temperature and till Thursday the weather conditions would remain the same.
Dr KK Gill, meteorologist at the Punjab Agricultural University, said, that if trends of past four to five years were taken into account, prevailing temperature is normal, but if it is compared to last year, it is slightly on the higher side as last year in the second week of May, weather was slightly cooler.”
She further informed that in 2012, the temperature during the second week of May was around 33 degree Celsius.
But, in 2013 the average temperature is around 38 to 40 degree Celsius and in coming weeks, the weather is expected to remain the same.
Neelam Kapoor, a resident of Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar, said that till the first week of May, the heat was bearable. But in the last three days, temperature has really gone up and it has become difficult to go out during the afternoon.

{{/usCountry}}“A drastic change in weather has been witnessed, which has become intolerable, so we have started using air conditions and coolers at our houses,” says Vijay, a banker.
However, farmers are a happy lot as such weather is good for the wheat crop in summer as the crop needs high temperatures for the grain to ripen.
