Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday asked a SAS Nagar resident and Punjab government to amicably settle the dispute in which the petitioner woman has challenged acquisition of land for a road leading to a resort, partly owned by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, in Mullanpur area.
The high court bench of justices Surya Kant and Sudip Ahluwalia gave time to both the parties till September 5 for the settlement of dispute.
The petitioner, Juveeza Chadha, is a resident of Majra village, through which the controversial 100-ft-wide and 1.3-km-long road is being constructed in Mullanpur area. The resort at Palanpur village is 2km from the point where the road ends.
The acquisition was challenged in April 2015 following which high court had stayed the process. It was alleged that land acquisition was carried out in a hurried manner and rules were not followed.
The petitioner had sought to implead chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal as respondents in the case.
