Finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa said around 40,000 beneficiaries availed benefit of the new system of e-payment, launched by the Punjab government from April 1.

Dhindsa said the payments of all government departments would be transferred directly into the bank accounts through the Integrated Financial Management System.

He said Punjab had become the first state in the country to start the programme.

"The new process not only saves time but also helps maintain a record of payments," Dhindsa said.
