The police also recovered the Indica car that was used by the accused in the crime. It was found abandoned in the Hargobind Nagar area. After investigation, the police found that it was not a concocted story as they were suspecting earlier.

According to police, the gang had executed several other incidents in Amritsar and Ludhiana. The gang members used to stand outside the banks and dupe people on the pretext of exchanging currency notes.

On Thursday, when victim Sunil Garg reached the bank, the accused were already present there and called on him and asked him to exchange currency notes with them. Garg refused and turned around to go the bank.

Meanwhile, other gang members reached the spot in the car and thrashed Garg and kidnapped him. The accused was dumped near Sahnewal after cash was snatched from him.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), city-1, Amrik Singh Pawar said the gang had been identified as ‘Ghugga Gang’ and it had been verified that Garg was not involved in the crime.
