The development has raised questions over the security arrangements in the area. The Amritsar city police have booked unidentified persons in this regard under section 380 of IPC in a case registered at 'A' Division police station.

The incident took place near the residence of the police commissioner, where a mall is currently under construction, at around 11.00 am. The car belongs to a local businessman, identified as Mahinder Singh, who resides near the Police Lines area, and is the owner of the mall under construction. He also owns some factories on Tarn Taran road, police said.

They said the stolen cash, amounting to `8 lakh, was in a bag placed on the back seat of the car.

"The accused broke the rear window on the right side to steal the bag," said Inspector Kulwinder Kumar, SHO, 'A' Division police station.

"Efforts are being made to identify and arrest the accused. The case is being probed from various angles. The accused are likely to be arrested soon", said the SHO.
