Police on Friday arrested a local Shiromani akali Dal leader Gagan Ajit Singh Parmar and his son for duping a woman on the promise of giving her job in government department.

Police on Friday arrested a local Shiromani akali Dal leader Gagan Ajit Singh Parmar and his son for duping a woman on the promise of giving her job in government department.

Accused Parmar, who took an amount of Rs 60,000 from the woman on pretext of a job, even drove her up to the chief minister's residence in Chandigarh, but did not take her inside, police sources said.

According to complainant, Avtar Singh Atwal, the accused told him that he was very close to senior SAD leaders, including ministers, and was also using his links to help the needy. He asked him the accused if he could help a needy in getting employment.

Atwal then spoke to a widow, Veena, who was in need of a job for her daughter Paramjit Kaur.

"Then we spoke to the accused and he demanded Rs 60,000 for getting Paramjit a job as Angwanwari worker. We only gave him Rs 15,000," Avtar stated in his complaint to the police.

Arrested accused were produced before the court on Friday and were remanded to 14 days judicial custody as police did not seek their custody.
