The Sanjha Morcha, comprising the CPI, CPM and the People's Party Punjab (PPP), was not able to clinch even a single seat in the municipal corporation elections.
Leaders of the alliance blamed the defeat on "money and muscle power" that they were not able to open an account in the elections.
Lone member of the CPI Sarabjit Lal had also joined the BJP last month. Leaders of the alliance are disturbed, as they were not able to bag even a single seat this time.
The PPP that was formed ahead of the assembly elections was also not able to open its account, thus dashing the hopes of many.
The alliance had together fielded 20 candidates in the MC elections in Ludhiana. The issue of development in Ludhiana remained in the limelight during campaigning by candidates and leaders of the morcha.
"All major political parties had used money and muscle power to win the elections," alleged DP Maur, district executive member of the CPI.
He said while the BJP-SAD alliance had been claiming that they won the polls due to development. However, they actually did not do any development in the city, Maur alleged.

On the other hand, leaders claim that the MC elections had come immediately after the assembly polls as a result smaller parties were not able to make their base strong in the area.
Arun Mitra, assistant secretary of the CPI, said the morcha did not get any time after the state assembly elections to form a base.
"There was also polarisation among two major parties (Congress and SAD) as a result of which the votes got divided and the morcha was not able to get even a single seat in the district," Mitra said.
Meanwhile, the BSP that had managed to bag one seat in the MC elections was also not able to bag even a single seat this time.
One of the reasons that these parties were not able to get even a single seat could be non-serious campaigning by these parties. No senior leader from these parties had even come to Ludhiana for canvassing.
