SAD women district president, son found dead

The district president of the Shiromani Akali Dal women's wing (rural) and her son were found dead under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Jaspal Kaur Dharni, 48, and her son Ajit Singh Dharni (24).

The district president of the Shiromani Akali Dal women's wing (rural) and her son were found dead under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Jaspal Kaur Dharni, 48, and her son Ajit Singh Dharni (24).

Police found Ajit's body in a highly decomposed condition from his house in old Bishan Nagar around 9:45pm. Neighbours told policemen that Ajit's mother had been missing for the past almost 10 days.

On getting information about an unidentified body being recovered from the Khanauri headworks of the Bhakra main line three days ago, a police team contacted the Khanauri police station in Sangrur district. Sources confirmed that it was Jaspal's body.

However, the police have been investigating the matter. the prima facia , the police claimed that it was purportedly the case of suicide.

Earlier, the Dharnis' relatives became suspicious after mobile phones of the woman and her son were found switched off and there was no response to repeated calls on their landline number. Ajit's death came to light when relatives visited the house on Tuesday evening.

According to a preliminary investigation, Ajit had been lying dead for the past more than 10 days and insects were feeding on his body.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said a police team had been sent to Khanauri for verification of the woman's body.
