In absence of the wall, stray animals enter the schools. Locals throw garbage at the schools, which are at continuous risk of thefts.

A visit to Government Primary School, Panjab Agricultural University - it has a strength of 140 students - revealed that the school is without a boundary wall for past 36 years.

“Anybody can enter the school unhindered,” said a schoolteacher, requesting anonymity. “Several incidents of thefts of LPG cylinders, utensils and water taps have been reported in the past. Local residents have made our school a garbage dump. The authorities must give us funds to construct the boundary wall.”

School incharge Hema Gupta said, “We had written to the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Office in 2014 requesting for construction of boundary wall, but to no avail. Now, the district education officer (elementary) has assured us that a boundary wall will be constructed at the earliest.”

Similar is plight of other primary schools

Government Primary School, Balipur Khurd, has a boundary wall on only three sides. Government Middle School, Mand Khanpur, Macchiwara, is running with a boundary wall on two sides for past 10 years. There is no boundary wall in the front and rear of the building.
