They are the brave families whose three generations have served in defence forces, and now people will read about their heroics and dedication.
The Punjab defence services welfare organisation will compile their stories into a book due to come out in August. Irrespective of the rank or wing, the heroes of this tale will be from all backgrounds, with the love for the life in uniform common to all. The state DWSO has deployed its district units to find out the families and gather their details and photographs.
Wing commander Rajwant Singh (retd), president of the district sainik welfare board, said it would be the first book on the subject in the state. "The remarkable services of three generations would be highlighted," he said. "It will be a salute to the families who have the courage to put the country first."
Three generations of service to the defence forces will be a rare example to read about, and readers will also know the contribution of the soldiers' families as well, the DWSO hopes. "The book will cover the family even if any soldiers among the generations have retired or died. From most junior to the most senior officer, the books will cover all without discrimination," said wing commander Rajwant Singh (retd).
With fewer youth getting into defence, it's no surprise that the book's target readership is young people. "We are out to inspire the families to send their sons and daughters into defence forces," said the wing commander.
