Scholarships worth around Rs 3 lakh given to EWS students

Saini Charitable Education Trust, Rupnagar, organised a ceremony to distribute scholarships and stipends to students from the economically weaker sections of the society (EWS) for the academic year 2013-14 at Saini Bhawan here on Monday.

Saini Charitable Education Trust, Rupnagar, organised a ceremony to distribute scholarships and stipends to students from the economically weaker sections of the society (EWS) for the academic year 2013-14 at Saini Bhawan here on Monday.

Punjab technical education principal secretary AR Talwar was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed stipend and scholarship amounting to Rs 2.86 lakh to 79 brilliant students belonging to economically weaker sections of the society.

Talwar called upon the need to help the downtrodden.

A declamation contest was also organised on 'Increasing Indiscipline among Youth' in Punjabi. Harpreet Kaur and Mansi Ohri of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Academy here bagged the first and second prize, respectively, while Jyoti Kharka of Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant School, Power Colony, bagged the third prize.

In the English declamation contest on 'Sexual Harassment of Women', Kanu Priya of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Academy bagged the first prize, Binni Parbhat of Sri Guru Ram Rai Public School won the second prize, while Anmolpreet of Rayat International School, Rail Majra, got the third prize.
