Even Government Senior Secondary School, Haibowal Khurd, awaits letter from authorities for upgradation of the school from senior secondary school to model school. The school is yet to receive a nod to start commerce stream from this academic session.

Anoop Kumar Passi, principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Cemetery Road, said: “During a visit to our school, the chief minister had sanctioned Rs 2 lakh for sports but when we contacted at the deputy education officer (DEO) office, they told us that we have received consolidated amount which has no mention regarding this. So when we contacted the education secretary office they told us that they have transferred the amount so we are in a fix that where the amount has gone? If we get this amount then we will be able to purchase sports equipment.”

Deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal said: “We have received consolidated amount for the construction of the classrooms for four government model schools and that does not include funds for sports. If we will get funds for sports then we will send the same to the education department and further it will be given to the school.”

District education officer (secondary) Gurjot Singh was not available for comment.
