As many as 20 out of 275 schools affiliated to the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) that were issued notices on January 21 for not attending the two meetings related to the Safe School Vahan Scheme, sent their replies to the district education officer (DEO), secondary, Paramjit Kaur Chahal on Wednesday.

Most of the schools have submitted a written reply, stating that there was Internet problem so they were not able to reply to the education department. There are as many as 364 PSEB-affiliated schools, out of which only 89 schools had attended meetings conducted by district transport officer Anil Kumar Garg and Khanna ADC Ajay Kumar Sood on December 5 and 18, in which the Safe School Vahan Scheme was reviewed. Out of 364 schools, 48 are aided schools and only seven on them had attended meetings.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Paramjit Kaur Chahal said, “We will send the school names that have not submitted a reply to our department to the board to take action against the schools. While the schools were given two weeks to reply, only 20 schools have submitted it today.”
