Season’s first showers bring coldest day in Chandigarh, more likely today

Chandigarh is likely to receive moderate rain on Tuesday and the temperature is expected to dip further.
The day temperature was 21.6°C on Monday — the coldest day of the season.
The weatherman has, however, ruled out the possibility of heavy rain on Wednesday. Mohali’s PCA stadium is hosting the second India-Sri Lanka ODI on Wednesday.
According to the Surender Paul, meteorological department director said, “There will be a decline in the intensity of rainfall on Wednesday.” He added that the sky will mainly remain cloudy.
With Chandigarh receiving this winter’s first rain on Monday, it also recorded the coldest day of the season so far.
Although till 5:30pm, only 0.5mm rain had been recorded in the city and 1mm at the airport, the cloudy weather brought down the day temperature by five notches.
At 21.6°C, the maximum temperature on Monday was marginally lower than 21.8°C recorded on December 6, which was earlier the coldest day of the season.
In the past one week, the mercury had consistently risen and had reached 26.7°C on Sunday. However, the minimum temperature has been consistently increasing. It was 10°C on Saturday night and increased to 11°C on Sunday night.
“This was the is the first rain of this winter and the day temperature is set to decrease further by five to six notches,” said Surender Paul, director of the India Meteorological Department’s local unit. “The night temperature will stay stable for a day but will decline by 2-3°C after Wednesday.”
Last year, at this time of the year, the maximum temperature in Chandigarh was 24.6°C and at night it was 9.1°C.
The day temperature is likely to dip by three degrees and will remain around 18°C on Tuesday.
