It will be the second controlled rate sand quarry after Hoshiarpur having an approximate area of 53 acre.

Shakti Kumar Sharma, chairman, Punjab Small Industries Export Corporation (PSIEC), said the state had handed over 40 sand quarries to the PSIEC in the first phase for supplying sand at cheap and controlled rate to the public.

Out of 40 sand mines, the union government had given environment clearance to five quarries, and the permission for making more quarries operational would be granted by the Centre soon, he added.
Moga and Ludhiana sand quarries would be made operational in the coming days, he said.

PSIEC managing director Yashveer Mahajan said the state had fixed a rate of Rs 800 per cubic foot and a nominal charge of 40 paise per quintal for per kilometer as transportation charge, in case the transportation was done by the state.

Mahajan said the government had also decided to hand over the remaining sand quarries after completion of their respective contract period.
