The jail's deputy superintendent RK Sharma said, "Guards and an assistant jail superintendent will be posted on round-the-clock duty outside cells where Pakistani prisoners are kept."
The prisoners are already segregated from their Indian counterparts and lodged in different cells.
"But after the attack on Sarabjit, we have heightened their security to avoid any untoward incident," said Amritsar deputy commissioner Rajat Aggarwal.
He added no one is allowed to meet the Pakistani prisoners and guards will accompany them even when they step outside their cells.
