A resident of Choti Baradari, Sunita Jain, 53, was stabbed after she resisted her servant’s bid to loot her house about midnight on Saturday. Sunita is the sister-in-law of Satish Jain, the owner of Haveli Heritage restaurant on the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway.
The accused, Ashok Kumar, of Partapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh, had been with Jains for two years and attacked Sunita with a knife and scissors. Earlier on Saturday, he had told the family members that he would be leaving for his village for a month. Kumar, who managed to flee, had stashed cash and jewellery in a bag, before Sunita confronted her.
Sunita is admitted to the Pasricha Hospital.
FAMILY ALLEGES LAX POLICE RESPONSE
Family members claimed that the police emergency number was non-functional when they attempted to contact it. Two cops turned up after an hour at the hospital that is only a km away from the hospital. DCP Rajinder Singh told HT that on a statement from the victim’s son, Madhur Jain, Kumar had been booked for attempt to murder.

{{/usCountry}}In a similar case on July 2, a servant and his two accomplices attacked Naresh Sehgal, a retired lecturer in Bagh Karambakash locality, and looted her gold rings and bangles before fleeing the spot. They are yet to be arrested.
