Nearly seven months after a Kale village girl allegedly died of consuming some poisonous substance, the Amritsar city police have booked two persons for driving her to suicide. The incident took place in August last year.
Ramanpreet Kaur (21) was pursuing her undergraduate studies at a well-known college in Amritsar.
The accused have been identified as Shiv Kumar, a resident of Majitha Road, and Priti of Nikka Singh Colony. They have been booked under Section 306 of the IPC at the Cantonment police station.
The girl's father, Balwinder Singh, had filed a complaint in this connection soon after the incident took place.
In the complaint, Balwinder Singh alleged that his daughter, who was studying in BA part III in a renowned private college, and Shiv Kumar were 'friends'.
However, the accused later entered into a relationship with Priti, which Ramanpreet could not tolerate, and committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance. The complainant alleged that on August 30, 2013, he was informed that his daughter was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital by both the accused, where she later died.
Mahal police post in-charge Narinder Kumar, who is investigating the case, said, "The complaint was registered soon after the incident. A probe was ordered into the matter. The case was registered under section 306 IPC on the orders of higher police officials on the completion of the inquiry."
