The relief material arranged by the Shiromani Gurdawra Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) was air lifted by an Indian Air Force (IAF) place from the Chandigarh airport on Thursday for the earthquake hit families of Nepal.
SGPC secretary Dalmegh Singh said that the relief material had been lying at Chandigarh for the last three to four days. This was because space for landing the plane at Kathmandu was not being made available and now finally the clearance had come, he added.
Dalmegh said that as per requirements sent by an advance SGPC team most of the material that was dispatched included dry ration, that is flour, sugar, tea leaves, rice, pulses etc. This will be used for preparing 'langar' (food) at the gurdwara in Kathmandi by SGPC sewadars who too boarded the plane. As many as 50 sewadars led by Dalmegh boarded the plane in Chandigarh.
They will not only prepare the 'langar' but will also distribute it to the people devastated by the earthquake.
A 4-member SGPC team led by Rajinder Singh Mehta is already in Kathmandu to assess the requirements and needs of the effected people.

Meanwhile 'akhand paath' in memory of the quake victims commenced at Dewan Manji Sahib Hall in the Golden Temple complex here on Thursday. The 'bhog' will be held on Saturday.
