The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has expressed concern over a Canadian court ruling directing Sikh truck drivers to wear “hard hats” instead of turbans while at workplace so as to maintain “safety standards”.

SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar appealed to the Quebec court to reconsider its judgment as Sikhs attach a great deal of sentimental value to their turbans, which is also their religious symbol that gives them a distinct identity.
