In a statement issued here on Friday, Makkar requested the Indian government to take up the issue of attacks on Sikhs with various foreign governments at the diplomatic level. "Everyday, Amritdhari Sikhs abroad were insulted on some pretext or the other," he said, adding that the SGPC intended to deal with the issue.

The SGPC planned to open International Sikh Centre at Yuba City in the US to disseminate information about the distinct Sikh identity, Makkar said.
