Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union minister Shanta Kumar turned 81 on Saturday.
The two-time chief minister of Himachal Pradesh and Kangra MP kept the celebrations low-key. Only a few of his supporters and residents of Palampur visited his residence to extend greetings.
Through a post on his Facebook account, Shanta thanked the almighty, friends and his party for all that he was able to achieve in life.
Shanta said his dream project, the Vivekanand Hospital and Kayakalp Himalayan Research Institute for Naturopathy and Yoga, was now fully functional. "My foremost wish is to start a cardiology department in the Vivkananda Hospital by next year," he wrote.
Chief minister Virbhadra Singh extended greetings to Shanta on his birthday. He telephonically conveyed his birthday greetings and wished him long life and good health.
Meanwhile, Shanta has expressed concern over Kangra lagging behind in Swachh Bharat Mission.
"Despite adequate funds being sanctioned, Kangra district lagging behind in Swachh Bharat Mission is a matter of concern," Shanta said, in a statement issued here.
He urged the administrative officials of Kangra and Chamba districts to convene a meeting on September 24 and 25 to review the situation and find out the reasons behind the failure. He said the work on toilets in every house should be completed in a time-bound manner. "I will also take up the matter with the central government if more assistance is needed," he added.
